JACKSON & LINDY | WISCONSIN WEDDING

With a full tank of gas, a kid and all his hockey gear, and my camera in hand, I set out for a weekend in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where I had the pleasure of capturing the Liedl wedding in between my son’s hockey games—what a weekend! Life as a photographer and a mom means being ready for anything; I’m busy and on-the-go, constantly pulled between the ones I take care of and those whom I photograph. I love the hustle and the bustle, but this wedding gave me a chance to slow down, basking in the quiet intimacy shared between the couple in love.

Perhaps what’s most memorable for me about this wedding is the bridal suite. Quaint, vintage, and beautiful, the bridal suite is a place of many emotions. It is here I capture the look on the bride’s face as she’s buttoned into her gown; it’s where I view a mother’s tears through the lens of my camera. It’s where a bride and her friends joke about her last day as a single woman. As I looked around this particular room, I was struck by the power of simplicity. A white dress, a smiling bride, and a loving support group made for breathtaking photography—the soft gray and white hues certainly helped set the scene, too.

The Liedls held an intimate ceremony for family, followed by a larger reception open to friends. Their special day was held at the Metropolis venue, where a bright teal staircase complemented the wedding party’s navy blues and deep reds. I loved the color combination, and was happy to escape the cold and noisy ice rink and relax in a setting warmed not only by the sunshine peaking through the windows, but by the smiles on the faces of the newlyweds.

Moments like these make the chaos worth it.
