Talk to nearly any Minnesotan and you’ll hear one thing: We love Fall. There’s just something about autumn in Minnesota; the leaves of every tree start changing color; the temperatures start to drop but hover in the “safe zone” so as not to prompt an early snowfall; and being outdoors suddenly feels better than staying inside. For this and so many other reasons, I always look forward to fall engagement sessions—and Kody and Jordain’s shoot was no exception.

I spent my afternoon with Kody and Jordain outdoors, capturing their engagement photos in a location that’s proved to be quite popular among my clients: My parents’ backyard! I love spending the day exploring this land; there’s no shortage of greenery to capture and land to explore. Add falling leaves and a sunset, and my job becomes a whole lot more fun.

There’s a lot to love about this particular couple, but perhaps my favorite part of the day was spending time getting to know their sweet, sweet puppy. We let their pup join in on the fun, photographing the young family of three together at certain moments of the shoot. When he wasn’t in the frame, Kody and Jordain’s dog joined their best friends on the sidelines, cheering us on and motivating me to really dive into my element and produce some of the best, most breathtaking photos I’ve ever had the chance to.  The day went by in the blink of an eye, but the memories captured on camera will last this couple a lifetime. I wish them all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives together!
